Our 2025 Season is here, and now it’s time for auditions! Join us from 2 to 5 p.m. on March 22 and/or March 23 at Covenant Presbyterian in Staunton to audition for more than 55 roles! This eclectic season of laughter offers roles for actors as young as 15, singers, dancers, comedians, and a cowboy or two. Characters
Age ranges are somewhat flexible, several roles involve kissing

Henry Saunders—50+
Former producer of The Cleveland Opera, his reputation is on the line. He’s used to being in charge and doesn’t deal well with the unexpected. Brash, high energy, about to have a nervous breakdown.

Max—30s+
Saunders’ former assistant for 10 years, now a rising opera singer in his own right. One of the 3 Tenors and a long term friend of Tito’s. He’s the sane one, capable, intelligent, patient, and talented. Also married to Saunders’ daughter and about to become a father. Preferably can sing.

Tito Morelli—50+
One the most famous Italian opera stars. He speaks with a strong Italian accent. He fears he is getting old and may be replaced by a rising young Tenor. He’s regal, larger than life, a diva, quick tempered, easily jealous and quick to jump to conclusions, but also can be like a little boy at times. He’s madly in love with his wife Maria, but they love loud noisy fights. Preferably can sing.

Beppo
Played by the same actor as Tito. He’s a bellhop from Venice, and a dead ringer for Tito. Also speaks with an Italian accent and sings. He’s full of life, down to earth, and not adverse to pretending to be Tito.

Maria—late 40s+
Elegant wife of Tito. She speaks with a strong Italian accent. She’s also volatile and larger than life with a fiery temper, fiercely loyal to Tito but equally quick to engage in loud fights. Protective of daughter Mimi and her new romance. A romantic at heart.

Mimi—25
Daughter of Tito and Maria who was sent to school in the US so speaks with an American accent. She’s in love with Carlo and worried about her father’s reaction. She’s hoping for her big break as an actress. She will appear in underwear, nothing the actress is uncomfortable with. (30’s underwear is really pretty)

Carlo Nucci—late 20s
The rising Opera singer Tito is worried about. He’s in love with Mimi, but Tito thinks he’s having an affair with Maria. Usually self-assured, he’s actually in awe of Tito. He is willing to stand in for the missing Tenor until Tito attacks him and he quits. He will appear in boxer shorts. Preferably can sing.

Tatiana Racon—50s
Famous Russian Soprano, she speaks with a Russian accent. Former lover of Tito, she is intense and passionate—a seductress. She mistakes Beppo for Tito and Beppo is more than happy with that. She will appear in underwear, nothing the actress is uncomfortable with. (30’s underwear is really pretty)

Characters
Those auditioning are asked to sing one verse and the chorus of their favorite country and/or pop song. No accompanist available, so be prepared to connect to a speaker via bluetooth or sing acapella. 

Violet Newstead – female, 40s-50s
The company’s Head Secretary and Mr. Hart’s Administrative Assistant, she is a single mother and typically stands up for what she believes in. Attractive, strong, ambitious.

Doralee Rhodes – female, 20s-30s
A young, sexy spitfire who works at Mr. Hart’s office. She is proof that there is more to a woman than just her looks.

Judy Bernly – female, 30s-40s
The “new girl” at the firm, she has been burned by her husband’s affair and is searching for personal empowerment. Insecure, determined, and hopeful.
Vocal range top: F5, Vocal range bottom: Ab3

Franklin Hart, Jr. – male, 40s-50s
One of the firm’s executives and a notorious chauvinist. He is capable of faking charm but usually shows his true colors as an arrogant, self-absorbed boss.
Vocal range top: Gb4, Vocal range bottom: C3

Roz Keith – female, 30s to 40s
The attentive office gossip queen and snitch. She has an unrequited love for Mr. Hart and will do anything she can to win his approval.
Vocal range top: C5, Vocal range bottom: G3

Joe – male, 30s
A handsome, young office accountant. Genuine and nice, and smitten with Violet.
Vocal range top: G4, Vocal range bottom: B2

Dwayne – male, 20s to 30s
Doralee’s attractive husband. He is very supportive of her professional pursuits and truly loves her.
Vocal range top: G4, Vocal range bottom: E2

Josh – male, 15 to 18
Violet’s awkward teenage son.

Missy – female, 30s to 40s
Franklin Hart’s wife, clueless to her husband’s true nature.

Maria – female, 20 to 30
A young and vibrant secretary in Hart’s office.
Vocal range top: D5, Vocal range bottom: F4

Dick – male, 30s to 40s
Judy’s soon-to-be ex-husband. An average guy, he is sporting a little less hair and a little more paunch than he did ten years ago.

Kathy – female, 30s to 40s
A secretary in Hart’s office with a tendency to gossip.
Vocal range top: D5, Vocal range bottom: G4

Margaret – female, 20s to 40s
A secretary in Hart’s office with a bit of a drinking problem. Comic role. 

Tinsworthy – male, 50 to 65
Franklin Hart’s boss and Chairman of the Board. A good man, who may be wiser to Hart’s ways than he lets on.

Office employees, police officers, hospital employees.

Characters

Kreton –any age
Kreton is an alien with a vivid interest in Earth’s history. He has come to watch the Civil War, but lands in the midst of the cold war in 1957 instead. He loves the new “toys” invented for war, and decides to create one. His powers include levitation and reading minds, as well as having good conversations with the cat.

General Tom Powers—middle aged
He feels under-appreciated, sees his former setbacks as treachery in high places. He sees the arrival of the alien, and a potential war, as his way to glory.

Roger Spelling—middle aged
He’s a well-known television commentator. In his tv persona he is a bit Southern, warm and folksy, a faux bon-homme. In reality he doesn’t have the accent and is confident, more acerbic and sophisticated.

Reba Spelling—middle aged
Roger’s wife. She’s seems a bit vague, a gentle housewife, but underneath has a stronger streak. She’s often seen placidly knitting.

Ellen Spelling—college student
Daughter of Roger and Reba. 19 and a student at Bryn Mawr with a mind of her own. She wants “ Conrad, and money, and connubial bliss and a college degree and a little diamond tiara, you know, like they wear at the ballet” She feels like she’s drifting and wants to do something, perhaps save the world (and she may get the chance) She and Conrad are often seen kissing and cuddling.

Conrad Mayberry—college student age range
Ellen’s boyfriend. He’s an ordinary youth, more earnest than serious, a farmer and a self-described pacifist who frequently asks Ellen to marry him and live a simple life. For now, it’s kissing and cuddling.

Aide
A young captain, aide to the General

Delton 4
Handsome and suave in a morning suit and bowler hat. He is Kreton’s superior, and having been summoned by Ellen, will save the day. Kreton thinks he only there to spoil the fun

Characters

The Writer
Middle aged man, elegant but a little sloppy, whip smart and a little devious. Plays The Narrator in most shorts, as well as Kuryatin in Surgery, Peter in The Seduction, the Voice in The Audition, and Father in The Arrangement.

Actor One
A young male-identifying actor, plays Cherdyakov in The Sneeze, the Husband in The Seduction, the Sailor in A Drowned Man, Assistant in A Defenseless Creature, the Boy in The Arrangement, and Army Officer in A Quiet War.

Actor Two
An older male-identifying actor, plays the General in The Sneeze, the Sexton in Surgery, Man in Too Late for Happiness, Policeman in The Drowned Man, Kistunov in A Defenseless Creature, and Navy Officer in A Quiet War. Must be comfortable singing.

Actor Three
A young female-identifying actor, plays Wife in The Sneeze, Julia in The Governess, Wife in The Seduction, Girl in The Audition, and potentially Girl in The Arrangement. Must be comfortable with sexual situations/undress.

Actor Four
An older female-identifying actor, plays Madame in The Sneeze, Mistress in The Governess, Woman in Too Late for Happiness, Woman in A Defenseless Creature, and potentially Girl in The Arrangement. Must be comfortable singing and sexual situations/undress.
