FAQs

Thank You and Welcome to the Oak Grove Theater

Weather Cancellations

We try to post “rain-outs” and changes on our Facebook feed by 7:30PM(ish) on the night of a performance.  Sometimes the weather can look iffy elsewhere and be fine at the Grove so if you don’t hear anything then come on out or contact us on our Facebook Page.

Bells and Showtimes

  • The Box Office opens at 7:30 p.m. for inquiries
  • The House officially opens at 8:15 p.m though sometimes earlier.
  • Shows start promptly at 8:45 p.m. Please be in your seat by 8:40 p.m.
  • The 15-to-Show warning bell will ring at 8:30 p.m.
  • The last call-to-seats bell is at 8:40 p.m.
  • There is usually a 15 minute intermission with a single 5-to-Show warning bell.
  • Late arrivals should quietly drive into the field to park (avoid beaming headlights at the performance area) and discreetly take their seats.

Concession Stand

  • Concessions open by 7:30 p.m. each performance night and are available at intermission.

The stand is operated by (and proceeds go to) Performing Arts and K-12 Theater Education groups from our local area. Pick up a drink or snack and you will automagically support performing arts and education in the Shenandoah Valley.

Reserving Audience Seats

  •  Season Ticket holders can reserve seats starting at 6:30 p.m.
  •  Seats reserved before 6:30 p.m. will be removed.

A line of patrons with lawn chairs usually forms early and Oak Grove staff will open the gate at 6:30 p.m. and let patrons reserve seats on a first come, first served basis. Please respect the handicapped seating on the front row. Please, never use adhesives on the seats. Season ticket holders may reserve their parties’ seats with non-adhesive flagging tape, cushions, sweaters, police tape, chain, socks, ace bandages, oxygen tank tubing, or just string (we’ve seen it all…we hope). Non-adhesive flagging tape is available at the ticket gate to mark seats so you don’t have to give up your socks before the show.  Reserved seats must be occupied by 8:40 p.m. or they can be given, by staff, to waiting patrons.

Picnicking and Tailgating

Feel free to tailgate before the performance and enjoy the beauty of Oak Grove Theater. Picnic tables are provided on a first come, first served basis. It is always a good idea to bring lawn chairs to supplement the available seating.

  • Please limit and always control open flame. We do not allow campfires.

Entrances and Exits

See the Oak Grove Site Map in the section below for details

Please enter from the “Main Gate” – the one with the Oak Grove sign. Exit is through the “Woods Gate” to the “Field Gate” as shown on the map below. When entering the Grove please veer to the right fork unless you are arriving after the performance starts. Both forks are fire lanes and should be clear of unoccupied vehicles at all times.

Parking

Overflow parking and Grove Exit is at the field side (see the Oak Grove Site Map below for details). Please obey the traffic ushers and/or traffic cones.

Under the Trees

  • Park around the perimeter to allow traffic to flow easily.
  • Back into parking areas for safer exit after the show.
  • Make sure you keep entrances and exits clear of obstructions.

Field parking is in four rows as shown on the map below.

  • Second and third rows, please leave the egress lanes open – marked by cones at the lower fence and near the gravel drive –for all cars to enter and exit freely.
  • Park as close as comfortable so there is parking for all.

Season Tickets

Tickets may be purchased before the season begins or purchase Season Tickets at the gate during the first show.

  • Season Tickets will be mailed starting in late April (for early birds) and continue up to a week before the season opens.
  • See our Tickets page for current purchase and contact information.
  • Oak Grove Theater does not sell individual show tickets except to out of town guests of Season Ticket holders.
  • A Season Ticket is transferable, but good for admission to only one performance of each play. Due to Oak Grove seating capacity, admission per night is on a first come first served basis. See the ‘Reserving Audience Seats’ Section on this page for more details.

Out-of-Area Guests of Season Ticket Holders

Season Ticket holders may purchase a single night ticket for their out-of-area guest(s) on the night the guest(s) attend(s) with the season subscriber. The tickets are available at the gate after 8:00 p.m. and may be purchased by the season ticket holder for $20.00 per guest.

Thank you for being a part of the Oak Grove Theater. Enjoy the Grove!
